Abu Simbel Excursion and Return to Cairo
After breakfast at your hotel, you will drive to Abu Simbel, a village near the Sudanese border where you will visit the Abu Simbel Temples, two of the most magnificent temples in Egypt. The temples were built by Ramses II in the 13th century BC to commemorate his victory over the Hittites at the Battle of Kadesh, and to honor his wife Nefertari and the gods Amun, Ra, and Ptah. The temples are carved into the mountainside and feature colossal statues of Ramses II and Nefertari, as well as intricate reliefs and paintings. The temples were also relocated from their original site to save them from the rising waters of the Aswan High Dam, and they are aligned with the sun in a way that twice a year, on February 22 and October 22, the sun rays illuminate the inner sanctuaries of the temples. After the tour, you will drive back to Aswan and have lunch at a local restaurant. Then, you will be transferred to Aswan International Airport for your flight back to Cairo.
